Weyoung & Studio Ardent Music Video Collaboration

A historic and ambitious collaboration between Weyoung and Studio Ardent has culminated in two music video projects featuring originally written, recorded, and produced Chinese songs.

Over nine months, students from Weyoung self-learnt the complexities of music arrangement, studio recording, mixing, and mastering through YouTube.

While the songs were being mixed, Studio Ardent filmed the music videos over 10 days around Singapore, and also learnt to edit using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.

《風語》is an R&B-styled ballad which won the Audience’s Choice Award at A Song For You Chinese Songwriting Competition 2024, hosted by the HCI and NYGH Mother Tongue Department and Weyoung. 

The dreamy, shoegaze track《人生的浪潮終究冲散我們》won the Merit Award at the same competition. 

Both songs touch on different aspects of youth—one on romance and the other on treasured friendships against the passage of time. In their own flavours, they capture the common experiences of teenage angst and bittersweetness, while paying homage to Hwa Chong’s homegrown Xinyao roots, now carried on and evolved by yearly batches of talented Weyoung songwriters and musicians.

The music videos for 《風語》and 《人生的浪潮終究冲散我們》are now available on HCWeyoung’s YouTube channel, as well as on major streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
