GP Connect 2025
On 7 Aug 2025, we were honoured to welcome our distinguished guest, Mdm Rahayu Mahzam (Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information, and Ministry of Health) to Hwa Chong Institution for GP Connect 2025, organised in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Law.
GP Connect 2025 aims to broaden students’ perspectives about local issues of significance and encourage them to co-discover insights with public service agencies. In her address, Mdm Rahayu spoke about Singapore’s strong approach to governance and the rule of law, highlighting our collective achievements and national outcomes as a nation. She emphasised that these were “something that we should be proud of, and not a small feat”, given how Singapore continues to stand out internationally despite the challenges faced by a small nation.
Following her presentation on Singapore’s drug control policies and the useof the death penalty as a deterrent against drug traffickers, Mdm Rahayu engaged students in a lively Q&A session. Discussions touched on diverse perspectives, including the legal consequences faced by drug traffickers and how laws can evolve in response to public opinion.
The session offered our students valuable insights into Singapore’s law and governance. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mdm Rahayu Mahzam for sharing her time, knowledge, and experience with the Hwa Chong community.
