It fills us with sadness to hear of the passing of our former Principal Mr. Wu Tsung Kan. Our thoughts are with his family, to whom we extend our sincere condolences. Mr. Wu was the principal of Hwa Chong Junior College (1976 - 1979) He has not only contributed significantly to Hwa Chong but was instrumental to the development of Singapore's arts education and culture by playing a critical role in the revival of NAFA in 1979, in his capacity as its President after he retired as principal of Hwa Chong Junior College.

The late Mr Wu Tsung Kan was the second Principal of then Hwa Chong Junior College (HCJC). He played an important role in building a vibrant college culture and establishing the institution as a choice Junior College in the early years of HCJC. Mr Wu also contributed significantly to Singapore’s education journey in the 1970s, especially in his capacity as the Assistant Director of Education. Beyond the education arena, Mr Wu was instrumental in the development of Singapore’s arts education and culture. He played a critical role in the revival of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1979, in his capacity as its President after he retired as the Principal of HCJC. He is also fondly remembered for his many contributions in the early years of the college, especially in the field of Chinese Arts and Culture. 

While we are saddened by Mr Wu’s passing, we know that his dedication and selfless contributions to Hwa Chong and Singapore will always be remembered by the school and inspire Hwa Chongians of all generations to serve the school and nation with passion and compassion.
