Rooted in Community, Rising in Purpose: The Class of 2025 Steps Forward

The Class of 2025 has once again distinguished itself through strong academic performance in the A-Level Examinations.

This reflects the culmination of a journey shaped by growth, resilience and contribution, emphasised through the steady discipline of 自强不息 and the spirit of gratitude and appreciation embodied in 饮水思源.

Rooted in shared purpose, the Class of 2025 demonstrated meaningful impact across the college community and beyond. They initiated 136 Service-Learning Projects, partnering close to 200 organisations and community groups. Over 85% of the cohort earned the Hwa Chong Diploma, affirming holistic development across scholarship, leadership, service and character. They took home 54 Top 4 titles at the National Schools Games, 8 Certificates of Distinction and 2 Certificates of Accomplishment at the Singapore Youth Festival Presentation. 

Their contributions across sports, the arts and society affirm the values of 己立立人 and 己达达人: establishing oneself in order to uplift others and advancing oneself in order to advance the collective good. 

Grounded in the strength of our shared journey, our students have received offers from respected local and international universities. Many have also been invited into distinguished scholarship programmes that seek to nurture thoughtful, interdisciplinary minds ready to contribute meaningfully to the causes they serve.

Even ahead of the release of the A-Level results, several students of the Class of 2025 were awarded provisional scholarships, including the Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship. Such recognition speaks quietly of the confidence placed in their character and calibre, qualities nurtured within a community that pursues excellence with discipline and humility.

Our appreciation also goes out to the entire Hwa Chong family. This includes past and present staff, parents, and alumni, who have been steadfast pillars of support for our students. We especially acknowledge and thank the staff of Nanyang Girls’ High School and Hwa Chong Institution for their continued partnership in nurturing young men and women who will live with passion and lead with compassion. 

As our graduates step forward into the next chapter of their lives, they do so deeply rooted in community, in gratitude, and in the enduring values of Hwa Chong.

The Class of 2025 rises not alone, but upheld by a community rooted in purpose.

As such, it is with great pride that we highlight and celebrate the achievements of several students who truly embody the Hwa Chong spirit. 

SEAH JIN RONG (24A15)

His time as Students’ Council President was defined not merely by responsibility, but by relationships. In leading the Council and serving the wider college community, he fostered a collaborative and inclusive environment, always placing the needs of others before his own and strengthening the Hwa Chong spirit.

Respected by peers and teachers alike, he balances leadership with steady academic commitment, bringing integrity, composure and humility to every responsibility. He exemplifies a leader who serves with empathy, quiet confidence and lasting impact.

“I would like to thank all the tutors of the Humanities Programme, and Teacher Advisors of the Students' Council for their kindness, constant nurturing and unwavering support in my endeavours. HOR SZE JIA (24S6F)

As Vice-President of the Students’ Council, she has led with warmth and responsibility, helping to organise Orientation and major college events while listening closely to and representing the student community. Her leadership has strengthened connection and belonging across the college.

In both class and council, she sets a positive tone and nurtures a culture of respect and encouragement. Despite the demands of leadership, she exercises discipline in balancing responsibilities with steady academic focus, exemplifying a leader who serves with conviction, care and integrity.

LEE WEI YI (24A15)

As President of the Student National Education Council (SNEC) and a member of the Students’ Council, she has led with maturity and responsibility, organising National Day and Racial Harmony commemorations and facilitating ministerial and MFA engagement sessions. Her efforts have strengthened civic awareness and engagement within the college community.

Known for her warmth and genuine care for others, she is actively involved in community initiatives supporting the elderly. Dependable and resilient, she exemplifies a leader whose service is guided by empathy, conviction and grace.

Lee Wei Yi was a student of Singapore Chinese Girls School. 

RAN ZHUO ER, JOELLE (24S69)

As Secretary-Treasurer of the Artemis Faculty Committee and Chairperson of the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Committee, she has demonstrated principled and courageous leadership, earning the trust of peers and teachers through her integrity and accountability. She has also represented the college at the Singapore-China Cross Cultural Youth Forum, earning Second Prize, as well as the Tan Kah Kee International Quiz and MOE BSP Symposium.

Composed and empathetic, she brings maturity and assurance to every responsibility. Whether leading large-scale faculty events or supporting others in moments of need, she embodies humility, steadiness and a sincere commitment to building inclusive communities.

CHONG CHEUK YU (24A13)

As a member of the Chinese Society’s Drama Wing (黄城), she contributed to the annual production 黄城夜韵, taking on responsibilities within the Directors and Stage Managers team. As part of her commitment to Chinese language and culture, she served on the CLEP Council, where she played a key role in collating study and revision materials for her cohort.

Focused and resilient, she balances her commitments with quiet determination and composure. Through her outreach to the elderly and support for her peers, she exemplifies compassion, inner strength and strength of character.

Chong Cheuk Yu was a student of Nan Chiau High School. 

LEOW JUNN KAI, JONATHAN (24A14)

As President of the Green Council, he has led the college’s environmental initiatives with vision and purpose, introducing the REAMs framework for waste reduction and spearheading major events such as Earth Week and the Green Conference. His efforts have strengthened both the impact and continuity of the Council’s work.

He has also represented the college at platforms such as the International Public Policy Forum, Model United Nations and the Conflict Resolution Inquiry Conference, reflecting his commitment to civic responsibility and global issues. Composed and principled, he exemplifies a leader who acts with conviction, integrity and a clear sense of purpose.

NG LI ERN, LEONA (24S70)

As Vice-President of the VIA Council, she has led school-wide service initiatives, including food drives and mentoring programmes, while actively engaging with seniors’ centres and community organisations. Her sustained commitment reflects a deep compassion and genuine dedication to serving others.

Demonstrating remarkable resilience, she overcame physical setbacks to represent the college in Taekwondo at the National School Games, achieving Overall 1st Placing in the A Division Girls Championships and earning the SSSC Colours Award. Dependable and determined, she exemplifies a leader who serves with courage, compassion and quiet strength.

LIEW ZHEN YUE STEPHEN (24S61)

As President and Tenor Section Leader of the Hwa Chong Choir, he leads with steadiness and heart, guiding the choir through major performances and the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, where they attained a Certificate of Distinction. His leadership is defined by reliability, quiet encouragement and a deep commitment to his team.

Known for his openness and empathy, he supports both classmates and fellow choristers, fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment. Grounded and dependable, he inspires others through his integrity, humility and steady example.

TAN MYN JAE (24S6G)

With remarkable discipline and perseverance, he has distinguished himself across national science and mathematics platforms, earning top honours in Chemistry and strong performances in Physics and Mathematics competitions. His achievements reflect exceptional resilience and determination, overcoming challenges with focus, courage and intellectual rigour.

Driven by genuine curiosity, he pursues learning beyond the syllabus and serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Science Students’ Research Club and an organiser for ISYF 2025. Approachable and generous, he supports his peers while exemplifying humility, quiet strength and perseverance.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my form teachers in high school and college, Mr Rudy Lee and Mr Peter Bruce Gale, for their steadfast support of my endeavours across various areas, including science and leadership. I am also deeply thankful to Mr Quek Lin Ken for his guidance in Chemistry and for mentoring my CenTaD project, despite its highly specialised research focus.”

HSIAO LI CHIA (24S6G)

His passion for science is evident in his achievements across national research and competition platforms, including the Singapore Chemistry Olympiad, Singapore Science and Engineering Fair, and the Nanyang Research Programme, where he attained a Gold Award. Recognised with the A*STAR JC Science Award, he demonstrates intellectual curiosity, rigour and independence in scientific inquiry.

Beyond the laboratory, he serves as Sectional Leader in Track & Field (Walks) and is a consecutive National 5000m Walk champion, earning the SSSC Colours Award. A grounded and supportive presence, he exemplifies a scholar-athlete whose discipline, humility and perseverance inspire those around him.

“Throughout my six years in Hwa Chong, every teacher that I have met has shaped me into a more confident and motivated person. To Mr Peter Gale, thank you for flipping the classroom and igniting my passion for the sciences. Your wisdom has also been a great source of clarity and guidance!”

LI ZHENGHONG (24S7B)

A national badminton champion and international representative, she has competed at the ASEAN School Games, Southeast Asian Games, and major junior tournaments across Europe and Asia. A double A Division National School Games champion, she has received multiple Singapore Schools Sports Council Colours Awards, including Best Sportsgirl for Badminton, reflecting her discipline, resilience and competitive spirit.

She balances her academic and sporting commitments with focus and maturity, approaching every challenge with drive and determination. Energetic and encouraging, she uplifts those around her and exemplifies team spirit, perseverance and a deep commitment to excellence.

POK YAN KAI, BRANDON (24S68)

As a member of Singapore’s National Speed Skating Team, he has represented the nation at the ISU World Cup circuit, World Junior Championships and Asian Winter Games. He was awarded the SSSC Colours Award with Distinction, reflecting his discipline, endurance and courage on the international stage.

He also serves as Assistant CT Representative, playing a key role in planning OE Day for his class. Thoughtful and meticulous, he balances his demanding commitments with quiet resilience and maturity. A dependable and grounded presence, he earns the respect of peers and tutors alike, embodying integrity, perseverance and strength of character.
