Hwa Chong Institution rang in the Year of the Dragon with performances, games, and lion dances. Read on to catch the highlights of this vibrant celebration.

On 9 Feb 2024, Hwa Chong Institution ushered in the Year of the Dragon with a vibrant celebration of Chinese New Year, bringing together students, staff, and visitors in a joyous event that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Hwa Chong

At the High School, the festivities commenced with a heartfelt address by HCI’s principal, Mr Lee Peck Ping. Mr Lee wished everyone good fortune in the year ahead, setting the tone for a celebration that not only commemorated the Lunar New Year but also highlighted the school's commitment to cultural diversity and unity. The stage then came alive with a series of captivating performances, from our very own Chinese Drama, Chinese Orchestra, Music and Dance (Chinese) and Military Band CCAs. The audience was also enthralled with an engaging game show segment, and eagerly cheered their hearts out during a contest for the best-decorated classroom.

At the College section, students and teachers celebrated a morning of festivities from exciting performances by the various CCAs, a game show by the Student Council to a dragon dance performance by the Parents’ Support Group. A special highlight of the show would be the lion dance performance brought to us by J2 students who were in HCI’s high school lion dance troupe and NYGH’s Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe.

The Chinese New Year celebrations at Hwa Chong Institution served not only as a festive extravaganza but also as a testament to the school's dedication to fostering cultural appreciation and artistic excellence. Special thanks to all CCAs, student leaders, Parents’ Support Group, and volunteers involved in the planning and execution of the event.
