On 20 and 21 Jul 2026, four of our students welcomed four buddies from Waseda Shibuya Senior High School as part of the Ministry of Education Language Centre’s (MOELC) local exchange programme.
On 20 and 21 Jul 2026, four of our students welcomed four buddies from Waseda Shibuya Senior High School as part of the Ministry of Education Language Centre’s (MOELC) local exchange programme.
Over the two days, the buddies attended lessons together, giving the Japanese students a vibrant glimpse into life at Hwa Chong. Through a mix of Japanese and English, they exchanged stories about their schools and everyday lives, discovering both similarities and unique differences between the two cultures.
During their visit, they also joined our Racial Harmony Day x International Friendship Day event organised by the Student National Education Committee (SNEC) at the Inner Plaza. From trying traditional games to making friendship bracelets, the activities offered our Japanese friends an immersive experience of Singapore’s multicultural heritage.
Though the exchange lasted just two days, it left the eight students with friendships and memories they will always treasure. Here’s to many more shared moments and friendships across languages!
