21st March marks Founders’ Day, a day when the Hwa Chong family commemorates our founders’ spirit of giving. This year, more than 3000 Hwa Chong students embarked on a nationwide drive to serve the community.

Hwa Chong collaborated with the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) to conduct a food drive for needy families.  The Hwa Chong community came together to obtain daily necessities for more than 600 families across the nation.

“Moving the food items, such as packets of rice, might have been a tough slog, but we persisted, knowing that we were helping a family, an individual, another fellow person.” – Sean Woon Yukai (3H1)

The Hwa Chong family participated as well in North West CDC’s initiative.  Students covered more than 10,000 units in Bukit Panjang and Yishun, encouraging residents to go green and conserve electricity. The students also promoted recycling to the residents.

"Explaining the green initiatives to the residents and encouraging them to take part was very satisfying. I'm glad that we are able to take a step together to protect the environment that we live in.” – Cai Xinjie (4P1)

Our students helped to spruce up the environment at Pertapis Children’s Home for its beneficiaries. The activities included repainting walls and planters, and helping out in the library.

“Hopefully, our efforts have helped the Home to continue providing a conducive, warm and comforting environment for the children. It is vital to express our care for both the children and this safe haven of theirs.” – Jovanne Tan (16S6F)

These activities are part of Hwa Chong’s efforts to nurture leaders who live with passion and lead with compassion, and are in line with the Ministry of Education’s Values in Action programme.
