Making Innovation Come Alive at Hwa Chong

28 Jun 2017

The International Students Science Fair (ISSF) was held in Korea Science Academy (KSA), Busan from 19 to 23 June. It is a platform that provides an opportunity for young scientists from all over the world to present their research and build a global network of fellowship and collaboration. The 5 day experience included diverse programs such as research presentations, science workshops, science competition, a special lecture, cultural performances and local tours.

Out of the 260 students from 21 countries that participated in the fair, Yang Chun Wei (17S6G) was one of the eight students who were awarded the Most Innovative Project Award. His project entailed an algorithm for stakeholders using photovoltaic systems.

Chun Wei shared that:
“It was really a unique and fruitful experience for me, presenting to a panel of commentators from all over the world. I learnt how to convince people on the significance of my project, and received much constructive feedback with regard to methods on  further improving my project. It was also extremely heart-warming to see passionate science students alike being so enthusiastic in sharing their project with others and at the same time, offering a listening ear and showing interest in mine.”

His mentor Dr Stephen Tay (Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore) commented that:
“Chun Wei has shown several core characteristics which exemplify the CenTaD student – leadership, good time management and an inquisitive mind.”
