A joint team of student curators from both Hwa Chong Institution (College Section) as well as Nanyang Girls’ High School, were invited to present their research on the Singapore River’s development at the River Hongbao’s opening ceremony held on 3 February graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. This was part of a special exhibition celebrating modern Singapore’s bicentennial: “A Harbour and Home: The Singapore River through Time” in collaboration with the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. The presentation entailed charting a vision for the River through a wide variety of mediums, including artwork, poems and videos.
As Lim Tse Hwee (18A13) put it, “This experience has allowed us to broaden our knowledge beyond what we were taught in the classroom about the Singapore River. The largely student-based approach of this project also allowed us to experience independence in learning…”
