On why he decided to pursue flying and how he managed to negotiate his time between his studies for the A-Levels and his training, Denzel has this to share

“I have always had a passion for flying from young, as I regularly visited airshows held in Singapore. When I discovered the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC), I was over the moon as I would be given the opportunity to pilot an aircraft, even before I was able to drive a car.

The road towards my first solo, and ultimately my final handling test (which is the final test before one is given the private pilot license) was certainly no bed of roses. Studying for the 7 ground school exams and completing over 52 sorties while juggling my school work meant that there were sacrifices to be made. Countless weekends were expended studying for my ground school exams, as well as preparing for my sorties, which meant significantly less time for rest and games.

There were also days where I had to head down to SYFC immediately after school to carry out sorties, which were extremely taxing, both mentally and physically. There were also many challenges faced along the way, where I struggled to grasp foreign concepts with respect to aviation and aircraft systems. Striking a balance between doing my school work as well as my commitments in SYFC was critical in helping me succeed. This feat would also not be possible without the support of my family, teachers, instructors, as well as friends who were supportive of me throughout my journey.”

We wish him all the best for the rest of his flying adventures.
