Hwa Chong Student’s Passion for Art Showcased in Berlin29 Oct 2018
The Singapore Embassy in Berlin invited Singapore artists and students to submit artworks for a light art showcase at Berlin’s 14th Festival of Lights 2018 which sees over two million visitors yearly. The theme for the competition was “City of the Future”, where artists all over the world had to submit outstanding, original and innovative artworks that reflect their vision and perspectives on the theme.
We would like to congratulate Li Yi (18S60) on emerging as the winner after competing against nine other finalists comprising talented artists from Spain, Romania, Hungary and Germany. Her work was selected upon being shortlisted by an official jury and a global online voting round. Most exceptionally, Li Yi does not read Art as an academic subject.
She shared thoughtfully that:
“When I think about “City of the Future”, it consists of four elements: Human, Technology, Greenery and Animal. As we are progressing, dealing carefully with their interdependent relationships and interconnectedness is of paramount importance, so as to have a bright and harmonious future.”
Li Yi’s work is a timely reminder of the transformative impact of technologies on cities of the future, and a reflection on how city dwellers see themselves engaging with issues of digital empowerment and social as well as natural diversity.
Li Yi’s artwork was projected on the façade of the Singapore Embassy building located at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin for the duration of the 10-day international festival.
