Hwa Chong Students Improve on 2014 Performance in 18th National Olympiad in Informatics

Two teams of students represented Hwa Chong in the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI), held on 7 March 2015 at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore. The teams achieved a total of 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze medals, significantly improving on their 2014 performance.

The NOI is modelled after the International Olympiad for Informatics (IOI) and emphasizes creativity in problem solving, as well as programming skill and expertise in computer science. The wider goal is to spur interest and create awareness amongst students on the finer points of programming, ultimately seeking to equip students with knowledge beyond that of a mere IT application user, in line with the nation’s goals of creating an IT-savvy nation.

The High School team which obtained 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals comprised:

Li Yuhao 3S1 Gold
Gui Ming Jiang 3S1 Silver
Ho Yu Xang Damian 3I1 Silver
Cai Kai Ann 4A1 Bronze
Silas Yeo Shuen Yun 3S1 Bronze
Teacher-in-Charge: Mr Koh Kim Tian

Yuhao was also awarded the Outstanding Secondary School Contestant Award.

The College team which won 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze medals comprised:

Ho Jie Feng 15S7D Gold
Wu Yikai  15S7B Gold
Zeng Fan Pu 14S6G Silver
Chew Wen Jie Jeremy 14S6A Bronze
Zheng Huiyao 14S7B Bronze
Teacher-in-Charge: Ms Goh Keng Wah

Jie Feng was placed 3rd overall in the competition, and Hwa Chong also obtained the top Junior College award.
