On 21 and 22 January, the team comprising Alan Zhao (4H1), Bryan Tan (3S2), Chow Shi Kai (4H1), Ng Jun Rui (3H1), and Wong Yi Hao (3B1) participated in the Speak! Ventures Debate Championship 2017 organised by the Debate Association (Singapore). The competition drew participation from 28 schools, including the debate powerhouses.

We congratulate the team on emerging Overall Champion of the Gold Division category.  Our heartiest congratulations also go to their teachers in charge Ms Liew Pei Li (Senior Consultant, Humanities Programme and Literature) and Mrs Tan Jon Lin (Lecturer, Humanities Programme and Literature/ History).

Ng Jun Rui (3H1) who won the Best Speaker of the Finals shared that:
"The Speak! Ventures Debate Championship 2017 was as exhilarating as it was enriching.  We debated a wide range of pertinent topics affecting the world today, including moral, social, and political hot button issues.  Our team has grown from this experience, and we look forward to sharpening our minds in the competitions to come!"

The team is grateful for their coach’s and seniors’ guidance and their teachers’ encouraging presence during the competition. They endeavour to “continue to embody the 自强不息 spirit, by giving our best and striving for excellence within the debating circuit, so that we can bring back glory for the school.”
