Hwa Chong Students Awarded Prestigious SPF Scholarship and Home Team Scholarships

We would like to congratulate Tan Jin Hsi, Gabriel (15A14) who is the only recipient of the Singapore Police Force Scholarship 2017, one of the most prestigious scholarships awarded by the Public Service Commission. It is awarded to candidates who have shown strong leadership qualities, possess impeccable integrity and have an interest in shaping policy regarding public law and order.

Some of his notable achievements include clinching the National Inter-School Judo ‘C’ Division Championships in 2011 and 2012, attaining 1st Runners’ Up at the Asian School Debates Championships in 2014 and serving as Project Coordinator and the Social and Relations Committee in the d Students’ Council.

He commented that:
           "I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all my teachers in Hwa Chong for always bringing out the best in me through their constant guidance and support. I also wish to thank the school for the many opportunities it has provided."

Gabriel is excited by the dynamic nature of work in the Police Force, the community engagement he will experience on the ground, and the tangible difference he can make to his country. He looks forward to a challenging and meaningful career in the Singapore Police Force. He will be pursuing Law in the United Kingdom.

Following a tradition of leaders in public service, Hwa Chongians Goh Xian Fong (14S7J) and Li Jiawang (14S6C) have been awarded the Singapore Government Scholarship (HT Science and Technology); a new scholarship offered only to Singapore Government Scholarship (SGS) holders reading science and engineering disciplines at the undergraduate level, tenable at top local and overseas universities. Heading to the United Kingdom to pursue their passion for their various disciplines, Goh Xian Fong will be studying Chemistry and Li Jiawang will be furthering his interest in Physics. Recipients of this scholarship will be groomed for Ops-Tech/Ops-Science leadership positions in the Home Team.

Joelle Chua Shu Ting (15S64) and Zhu Jiahua (14A12) have been awarded the Local Merit Scholarship (LMS) which helps promising individuals develop meaningful and rewarding careers with the Home Team, beginning with an undergraduate education at a local university. A LMS scholar will take on a career as a Senior Officer in one of the Home Team Departments.

We would also like to congratulate them and their teachers for all their hard work. We wish our alumni the best as they continue their studies.
