Hwa Chong Educator Conferred Best Literature Teacher Award05 Jul 2016
We extend our heartiest congratulations to Ms Liew Pei Li (Senior Consultant/Humanities Programme and Literature) for being awarded the Best Literature Teacher of the Year at the Inaugural Asian Women Writers’ Festival. This award is given to teachers who display outstanding teaching effectiveness both within and outside the classroom; who possess the ability to inspire, promote and sustain interest in Literature among students, utilize a creative and innovative approach to teaching, foster critical thinking and challenge students to engage in independent inquiry.
Dr Suzanne Choo, Assistant Professor, English Language and Literature Academic Group, National institute of Education nominated Ms Liew because:
“…she is an excellent Literature teacher. From the lessons I have observed, she continually challenges her students to think critically, and implements innovative pedagogy that facilitates student-centered, inquiry-based learning."
Regarding her win, Ms Liew remarked that:
"My Literature teachers, who taught me when I was a student in Hwa Chong Junior College, were electrifying and knowledgeable mentors who sparked my passion in the subject. Since then, I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to return to my alma mater to teach-in both the College and High School sections-alongside some of the most dedicated and generous Literature educators.”
Ms Liew Pei Li receiving the award and prize money of $1000 from the Guest-Of-Honour Deputy High Commissioner and Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Ms Alexandra E. McKenzie, on 1 July 2016, at the Singapore Management University.Learn more about General News at HCI
