Recently in March, HCI sent its largest contingent of finalists for the past 5 years to participate in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) organized by Ministry of Education (MOE), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore (SCS). The SSEF is affiliated to the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which is regarded as the Olympics of science competitions.

As testimony to the hard work and tenacious spirit displayed by our students, staff and research mentors, the team attained an astounding 4 Gold Medals (please see below), with 1 student (Samuel Leong, 15S6G) selected to represent Singapore at the Intel ISEF.

Dr Lim Jit Ning, Senior Consultant for Research, commented that:

“The Singapore Science and Engineering Fair is an excellent platform for students to put into practice their written and oral communication skills. We strongly encourage every student to participate in this Science Fair and are delighted that they take this learning opportunity seriously. It is obvious that many of our students are excited to talk about their research and learning journey. In addition, the Science Fair is a good gauge on the quality of our programme and students’ learning. In this respect, we have consistently done well and look forward to further improvements.”

We would like to congratulate these students who have attained the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and wish Samuel Leong a fulfilling experience at the Intel ISEF.

Congratulations also to the teacher mentors of our aspiring scientists: Ms Liu Xi (Lecturer/Biology), Mr Wee Chorng Shin (Senior Lecturer/Chemistry), Dr Tan Yong Leng Kelvin (Education Consultant/ Research) and Mr Low Kay Siang (Lecturer/Chemistry) who have nurtured and guided our aspiring young scientists.
