HCI Student is Singapore’s First International Chess Master in a Decade

19 Jun 2015

Tin Jinyao from 3S1 was conferred Singapore’s first individual gold in the open under-20 division in the 16th Asean+ Age Group Chess Championships (AAG). The competition held between June 8 to 17, comprised a record 448 participants from 16 countries.

Crowned as Singapore’s first International Master (IM) in over 10 years, Jinyao is also the second youngest Singaporean to attain this open-age IM title. The IM title is second only to the highest rank of a chess grand master.

We commend Jinyao, for pursuing his passion for chess and support him in his efforts to attain the grand master title before he turns 18.
