School Based Gifted Plus Programme (iSpark)

In tandem with the school's overarching philosophical underpinnings, the Hwa Chong School Based Gifted Education programme, hosted by The iSpark Consortium, aims to focus on the total development of our students. This development spans the Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Social and Aesthetic realms.

In the lower secondary years, GEP students are housed in intact classes that include high-ability mainstream students. These classes are housed with The iSpark Consortium.  In-class enrichment and curriculum differentiation are key features.  At the upper secondary levels, The iSpark Consortium will jointly host a series of talent development programmes within the Centre for Scholastic Excellence. The programmes include The Humanities Programme, The Bi-Cultural Studies Programme, The Language Elective Programme, The Entrepreneurship Programme as well as The Science and Mathematics Talent Programme. Students are able to explore their interests while capitalizing on their strengths and enhancing their passions.

We are committed to providing a learning environment that is challenging and engaging for gifted learners. A varied curriculum and enrichment programme is planned based on a constructivist and investigative approach. Experiential and experiential learning through interdisciplinary studies, individualized research programmes and projects are common features for the gifted learners.

In addition to ensuring that each iSpark student is academically stretched to his fullest potential, we are resolute in our emphasis to provide an equally enriching and meaningful affective education.  Thus, the elements of caring, critical and creative thinking permeate in all curricula and programs. Students in iSpark are given opportunities and are encouraged to work with the community through the Community Involvement Programme and Service-Learning initiative.

Students have ample opportunities to develop their leadership talents through various leadership training programmes. The student leaders in iSpark, comprising the iCouncil members and Class Committee members, are also actively involved in organizing fun-filled events for the consortium. Many of them are concurrently developed to lead their respective CCAs and in the High School Council.

Our iSpark mission is to nurture global thinkers, who with pride and commitment, steeped in values, contribute to society with humility and integrity. We look forward to the partnership to realize our collective vision.
