Hwa Chong Scholarships

NTU-HCI Local-Overseas Merit Teaching Scholarship

The NTU-HCI Local-Overseas Merit is awarded for undergraduate study tenable at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), as well as postgraduate study at a reputable university overseas.

Eligibility
Applicants must:

  • Be a Hwa Chong Institution alumni;
  • Have excellent GCE 'A' Level Examination performance, or hold at least a Hwa Chong Diploma (Merit);
  • Have demonstrated leadership potential;
  • Have a good Co-Curricular Activities record; and
  • Offer at least 11 academic units at the A-Levels.  

 

Value of Award
Scholars will pursue their undergraduate study at NTU under the Nanyang Scholarship. The undergraduate scholarship covers the minimum duration for the first degree, subject to outstanding academic performance and excellent conduct. The scholars will be considered for a 1-year Master of Education program (or its equivalent) at a reputable overseas university upon graduation from NTU.

Course of study
Scholars are allowed to read the following teaching subjects (i.e. subjects in the curriculum of a secondary school/junior college). The preferred subjects are as follows:

a)    Languages: English and Mother Tongue
b)    Humanities: Geography, History and Literature
c)    Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
d)    Social Sciences: Economics, Philosophy
e)    Mathematics

Places of Study
Scholars will pursue their undergraduate study at NTU under the Nanyang Scholarship. Upon graduation, the scholar will pursue a 1-year Master’s degree in Education (or its equivalent) at a reputable overseas university.

Terms and conditions

  • Upon graduation, the scholars are required to teach in HCI for three years.
  • The scholar may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without prior approval from NTU/Hwa Chong Institution.
  • The selected candidates shall apply for the Nanyang Scholarship directly with NTU during the admission cum scholarship application period. Selection and determination for the awarding of Nanyang scholarship will be made at the sole discretion of NTU.
  • The renewal of the Nanyang Scholarship during the duration of the Undergraduate Programme will be subject to the terms and policies indicated by NTU.
  • The award of the 1-year Master’s programme is subject to good CAP (Cumulative Average Point) maintained by the scholar and excellent conduct.  
  • If the scholarship is revoked by NTU / HCI or the scholar decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, NTU / Hwa Chong Institution reserve the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis. 
     

SUTD-HCI Local-Overseas Merit Teaching Scholarship

The SUTD-HCI Local-Overseas Merit is awarded for undergraduate study tenable at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), as well as postgraduate study at a reputable university overseas.

Eligibility 
Applicants must:

  • Be a Hwa Chong Institution alumni;
  • Have excellent GCE 'A' Level Examination performance, or hold at least a Hwa Chong Diploma (Merit);
  • Have demonstrated leadership potential;
  • Have a good Co-Curricular Activities record;
  • Offer at least 11 academic units at the A-Levels; and
  • Be a Singapore citizen.   

 

Value of Award
Scholars will pursue their undergraduate study at SUTD under one of the SUTD undergraduate scholarships*. The undergraduate scholarship covers a maximum of eight academic terms for recipient to graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering with a major in Engineering Product Development, Engineering Systems and Design or a major in Information Systems Technology and Design.

The scholars will be considered for a 1-year Master of Education program (or its equivalent) at a reputable overseas university upon graduation from SUTD.

*Global Leadership Programme Scholarship, Asian Leadership Programme Scholarship, SUTD Undergraduate Distinguished Scholarship, SUTD Undergraduate Merit Scholarship and SUTD Undergraduate Scholarship. Course of study
Recipients of the scholarship are allowed to read engineering-related subjects offered by SUTD.

Scholars will pursue their undergraduate study at SUTD under one of the SUTD undergraduate scholarships. Upon graduation, the scholar will pursue a 1-year Master’s degree in Education (or its equivalent) at a reputable overseas university.

Terms and conditions

  • Upon graduation, the scholars are required to teach in HCI for three years.
  • The scholar may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without prior approval from SUTD/Hwa Chong Institution.
  • The selected candidates shall apply for the SUTD Scholarship directly with SUTD during the admission cum scholarship application period. Selection and determination for the awarding of the SUTD scholarship will be made at the sole discretion of SUTD.
  • The local scholarship covers the entire duration of undergraduate studies on condition that recipient maintain a minimum Grade Point Average of 4.0 (magna cum laude) out of 5.0. 
  • The award of the 1-year Master’s programme is subject to good Grade Point Average maintained by the scholar and excellent conduct. 

 

If the scholarship is revoked by SUTD / HCI, or the recipient terminates the scholarship, SUTD / HCI have the right to require the recipient refund the total sum of the scholarship award which had been paid/incurred for the benefit of the recipient and interest thereon.
 


Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship

The Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship is sponsored by the Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni (HCJCA). It is offered to Hwa Chongians with exceptional academic transcripts, outstanding leadership qualities, and excellent Co-Curricular Activities records.

Eligibility 
Applicants must:

  • Be a Hwa Chong alumnus;
  • Have excellent GCE 'A' Level Examination results;
  • Have a good Co-Curricular Activities record;
  • Display leadership qualities and sound character; and

Preference will be given to those with financial need

Value of Award
The quantum covers the minimum duration of the first degree, and an additional year if the holder qualifies for an Honours degree course. This is subject to outstanding academic performance and satisfactory conduct in the university.

In addition, over and above other bond-free scholarships held by the applicant, a lump sum award of S$9,000 will be given per academic year.

Places of Study
Scholars will pursue their undergraduate studies in a local university: NUS, NTU, or SMU.

Terms and conditions

  • Upon graduation, scholars are required to serve as a member of the Hwa Chong staff for two years.
  • Recipients shall commit to serve the HCJCA after graduation.
  • The scholar is expected to contribute to the HCJCA by designing programmes and networking activities to foster a greater sense of belonging to the school.
  • The scholarship is tenable for any course leading to a first degree, except Medicine and Dentistry.
  • The scholarship covers the entire duration of undergraduate studies on condition that scholars maintain a minimum CAP (Cumulative Average Point) of 3.5.
  • If the scholar decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, Hwa Chong Institution reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
  • The scholar may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without prior approval from Hwa Chong Institution.

Application timeline for 2016 cycle
